ISF2 – Current developments and in-depth applications

Infra‑Slow‑Fluctuation (ISF) Neurofeedback has developed dynamically in recent years – both in terms of clinical strategies and new protocol settings and network approaches. In this advanced seminar in June, we will build on the ISF2-Workshop starting in March, but going a step further: The focus is on the the latest clinical considerations, protocols and settings to explore these concepts together and apply them to the participants' practical experience. A particular focus is placed on working with trauma-related disorders and on concepts such as the "Bayesian brain," the idea of the brain as a predictive, probabilistic system.
Since the work with ISF is continuously being refined, the exact content is deliberately left somewhat open: We will refer to the latest settings and concepts orienting, which up to the time of the WorkshopThe aim is to present and discuss the available information in a practice-oriented format. The goal is to give experienced ISF users the opportunity to deepen their work, contribute questions from their own practice, and benefit from the latest developments.
Possible topics and focus areas
- Further development of the ISF2 concepts presented in March and their application to complex clinical cases
- new or adapted protocol settings and their clinical applications
- Discussion of case studies from the participants and joint clinical decision-making.
- Space for questions about specific settings, fine-tuning, and dealing with challenging reactions
target audience
The Workshop refers to Therapists and practitioners who have already completed ISF1 and ideally also ISF2 and those who want to keep up with current developments. This is especially relevant for colleagues who are already working with ISF in practice and are open to new clinical ideas, network concepts, and refined protocols.
target of Workshops
The participants should after the Workshop:
- have a better understanding of the latest ISF approaches and settings,
- and gain more confidence in adapting ISF flexibly and individually to complex symptom constellations.

learning goals
- With challenges of the 19-channel Infraslow-Trainingto be able to handle it
- Learning the response patterns to the ISFTraining to identify
- Identifying and training neural networks responsible for symptoms and complaints
- Application of Cross Frequency Settings
- Implementation of the ISF-sLoreta-Trainings
- Creation of individual ISF protocols according to anamnesis
- Interpretation of the results
Who can take this course?
Anyone who owns a Brain-Master Discovery System can take this course.
For the ISF sLORETA Workshop It is important to note that participants Need the beta version of BrainMaster. We strongly recommend that you do this at least 2 weeks before the course starts to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Participation in ISF 1 is not a prerequisite for participation in ISF 2! It is advantageous to ISF2 Beginner to have already completed However, this is not absolutely necessary..
Language
The course is held in German.
Lecturers
Ms. Monique Breithaupt-Peters, Ms. PhD Iseult Anna Maria Beets, Irmgard Möllenkamp teach Mark Smith’s method.
Mark Smith, the developer of the ISF Neurofeedback, was the first to take advantage of using a DC-coupled Amplifier for the Infra-Slow-Training In 2007, in collaboration with Thomas Collura PhD and others, the method was established on a DC-coupled amplifier, the Atlantis. This innovation enabled the imaging of these tiny signals with greater clarity and less noise than conventional AC amplifiers.
Recent equipment and software developments, particularly the Discovery and Avatar software, have enabled the recording of 2, 4 or 19 channels and the ISFTraining allows. This innovation has provided insight into the mechanism of bipolar ISFTrainings. We can now display this signal simultaneously in a bipolar and referential montage. The Avatar software has a platform for combining ISFTraining and simultaneous Z-scoreTraining/-analysis and/or sLORETA-Training/-analysis. This improvement provides a safe, effective and data-rich method for Training of the slow waves.
Infraslow fluctuations, first identified by Russian researchers in the 1950s (Aladjalova, 1964) and later confirmed by Joe Kamiya (Girton, Benson, & Kamiya, 1973) and others, have recently become a signal of considerable interest to researchers. Research suggests that the infraslow signal underlies the excitation dynamics of cortical networks (Vanhatalo et al., 2004). Vanhatalo was so convinced of the central importance of the ISF in the cortex that he stated that any attempt to attenuate this slow signal eliminates the most striking features of the human EEG. In addition, it appears to be a direct electrophysiological correlate of slow fluctuations in human psychophysical performance (Monto, Palva, Voipio, & Palva, 2008). Recent research suggests that very slow oscillations are associated with the default mode network of the human cerebral cortex and appear to be related to ADHD symptom status (Broyd, Helps, & Sonuga-Barke, 2011; Tye et al., 2012).
Important information
Please read this information carefully so that we can order the license you need.
To use Mark Smith’s software – “ISF Protocol” – a specific license is required. Please order the software by specifying all required information in the comment field on the following website.
ISF xLORETA (ISF2) License - Infraslow Associates
Please note that there are essentially two types of ISF licenses:
- Bipolar ISF License (this is the regular license that all ISF users have been using for years).
- ISFsLORETA - License (this is the latest license and was not issued to our participants before 2019. This license is intended for advanced users or for participants of an ISF Advanced Workshops recommended.)
We can only issue an ISFsLORETA license to the following persons:
- People who already have an advanced Workshop have visited
- People who are eligible for the Advanced Workshop are registered (the licenses are issued in Workshop distributed).
If you wish to place a license order in the future, please provide the following information so that we can order the correct license type (we may change the price if the order is incorrect not refund, so we ask you to please make sure to provide us with the following information:
- Name the person ordering the license
- Serial number of the device (You can find this on the bottom of your device next to the letters SN)
- Type of licensethat you order (bipolar license or an extended ISF-sLORETA)
- dates of Workshops in which the person has already participated (or the upcoming Workshopdate on which this person registered)
By providing the above information, we can determine the correct license type you need.
Please do not hesitate to contact us at +49 (89) 2000 299 66 or send an email to info@neurofeedback-info.de if you have any questions.
