Advanced Brain-Based Assessment Methods using Quantitative EEG (QEEG) and Event-Related Potentials (ERP)

The QEEG is a diagnostic tool that measures electrical activity in the form of brain wave patterns. It is sometimes referred to as “brain mapping.” It can reveal brain wave patterns that are associated with impulsivity, cognitive inflexibility, anxiety, and other symptoms.
QEEG is more sensitive than routine EEG for detecting cerebral hemispheric abnormalities related to cerebrovascular disease. EEG, whether quantified or routine, can detect abnormalities, in an inexpensive, noninvasive, reproducible, and sensitive way.
Event-related potentials (ERPs) are recordings of the electric field and open a window onto actually hidden steps of the brain's information processing. They represent promising tools for exploring the biological basis of functioning in many neurological and psychiatric disorders.

Advantages of QEEG
- Determination of abnormalities in the affected brain areas
- High acceptance among clients or in a team with other interventions (physicists, psychotherapists, neurologists, reviewers)
What can I learn in the QEEG course for immediate implementation in my practice?
- Recognition of typical patterns of neuropathological and psychophysiological dysregulation
- Linking symptoms and complaints with measured data in the Brain map
- Optimization of Protocols
- Recording of clean data
- Artifact correction, different methods
- Detecting Peak Frequency
- Managing difficult recording situations
- EEG Patterns and Biomarkers
- Using different Databases like Neuroguide, BrainDX, and QEEG-Pro for Analysis
Learning Objectives
- Recording technique of the QEEG
- Obtaining the data, editing the raw EEG using NeuroGuide and BrainAvatar software
- Compare Z values to symptoms in psychiatric and neurological disorders
