Slow Cortical Potential Neurofeedback, also called "SCP training," is considered the preferred standard protocol, with some of the most robust evidence of positive effects on ADHD symptoms, as well as migraine and epilepsy. SCPs are a type of event-correlated potentials that manifest as slow electrocortical activity shifts. They are either electrically negative or positive and have a duration of up to several seconds. These shifts are thought to reflect states of either increased cortical excitability or decreased excitability/inhibition, and researchers have demonstrated that the regulation of SCPs is markedly altered in children with ADHD. SCP training aims to increase control over these shifts, which improves self-regulation and reduces ADHD symptoms.
