Event-Related Potentials (ERPs)

Event-related potentials (ERPs) are recordings of the electric field which the brain produces in relation to an event. ERPs open a window onto actually hidden steps of the brain's information processing. They represent promising tools for exploring the biological basis of functioning in many neurological and psychiatric disorders. Due to their clinical relevance and validity, they provide the clinician and researcher with information the EEG alone cannot give. Erp's high time-resolutions work in the millisecond range and help to clarify efficiency in the processes in attention, decision making, emotion, and language.

Our workshop is intended to introduce the use of Event-Related Potentials for their work with the programs IFEN Neuroscience has recently developed and released.

We worked with renowned experts to create a powerful tool to measure ERPs. The development of our program put a particularly high priority on an intuitive and easy administration of the ERP-Tests. That way, beginners can also move forward with the evaluation of ERPs.

What will you learn during our ERP-Workshop

 Content Day 1

  • EEG basics, origin
  • Meaning of the term Event-Related?
  • Introduction into the theory of ERPs
  • Clinic and science of Biomarkers found by ERPs
  • Comparison of tools like EEG-Lab and Matlab to measure ERPs.
  • Demonstration of IFEN's CAPITO-GUI for ERPs
  • Measuring, for example, the P300 (P3a and P3b), Error Related Negativity (ERN) MMN (Mismatch Negativity)

 Content Day 2

  • Administering ERP sessions in Practice
  • Recording of the EEG with real-time stimulus markers
  • Preparing the program CAPITO with preset stimulus protocols
  • Creating stimulus protocols for auditory and visual ERP-Tests
  • Averaging several single test results into one test.
